adolf hitler: The fuhrer
Here we see a picture of Hitler giving one of his famous anti-Semitic propaganda speeches. His cunning use of words and passionate expressions are what propelled this man into power.
Adolf Hitler was born in Brauau am Inn, Austria, on April 20, 1889. He was the son of Alois Schickelgruber Hitler a customs official, and his wife Klara Poelzl. He grew up being extremely hostile to his authoritarian father, but overprotective and attached to his mother. Adolescent Hitler had dreams of of becoming a painter, so at 16 he dropped out of school to do so. He set off for Vienna. He was rejected by the Viennese Academy of Fine Arts. Alone in Vienna he acquired his first education in politics from Mayor Karl Lueger. He also picked up a few of his disgusting ideals like obsessive anti-Semitism. He believed that Jews were to be blamed for the undermining of the "pure Aryan race of Germany"
Hitler took part in World War I as a soldier. Many described him as fierce, couragous and loyal to his country. He was wounded in battle and spent three months recovering in a hospital. Enraged by Germany's military defeat and humiliation by the Treaty of Versailles, Hitler felt as if he was chosen to be the one to put an end to Germany's woes.
In the 1920's, Hitler began giving public speeches. His voice was very powerful and he spoke with great passion fueled by anger. By 1921, he had over 3,000 devoted anti-Semitic followers. He focused his speeches on the condemnation of the Treaty of Versailles, Marxists, and "Enemy No. 1: the Jew". By 1923 he was convinced the established government would collapse at any moment. He barged into a nearby beer-hall and pronounced that he would establish a new provisional government. He and Ludendorff marched through Munich along with 3,000 other men. They were brought to a halt by local police, 16 men were shot and killed. Hitler was then arrested and tried on February 26, 1924. He was sentenced to a 5-year imprisonment, but only served 9 months. During those 9 months, he wrote "Mein Kampf"(My Struggle). Mein Kampf is considered the "Nazi Bible". It is filled with primitive Social Darwinism, racial myth, anti-Semitism, lebensraum fantasy, and sold over five million copies.
By 1933, Hitler was in power. The first thing that he did as leader of a Nazi Germany was to invade neighboring countries that once belonged to Germany. His mind was set on capturing and conquering these countries in order to have land for the oncoming "Aryan Empire" he was to build. The first country to be invaded was Poland. After just a few months, Germany had also invaded Denmark, Norway, Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, France, Greece, Yugoslavia, the island of Crete, and Cyrenaica. While invading these countries, the Fuhrer ordered for all Jews, Marxists, Gypsies, homosexuals, and all other minorities to be sent away to concentration camps scattered all over Germany. The most famous one being Auschwitz. Here, these men, women, and children were worked to the bone, ridiculed, abused physically and sexually, and mass murdered by poisonous gas or burned in ovens.
The Red Army approached with great speed, along with the Anglo-Americans. Hitler saw that his dreams of an Aryan Empire were dwindling and did what any coward would do in such situation. He ordered all evidence of Nazi Death Camps to be destroyed, murdered his wife, and committed suicide. His body was burned along with his wife's by his aides.

josef mengele: the angel of death
Josef Mengele was born on March 16, 1911 in Gunzenburg. He earned a Ph. D in physical anthropology from the University of Munich in 1935. By 1937 he had been stated assistant to Dr. Otmar von Verschuer, at the Institute for Hereditary Biology and Racial Hygiene in Frankfurt. Dr. Verschuer was known for his research with twins.
In 1937 Mengele joined the Nazi party. In 1938, Mengele was promoted to SS and recieved his medical degree. He was a medical expert on the Eastern Front, but was wounded. He returned to Germany in January 1943. Here, he began to work at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Anthropology, Human Genetics, and Eugenics. Three monthes later, Mengele was promoted to SS Captain. Just one month later, Mengele was transferred to Auschwitz. He worked as a medical officer responsible for Birkenau's "Gypsy camp". After the killing of these gypsies,Mengele undertook the position as Chief Camp Physician at Auschwitz II (Birkenau) in November of 1943. Dr. Mengele periodically chose who was sent to the gas chambers upon arrival and who would go on to the camp. Although all camp doctors and officers got to choose who would survive and who wouldn't at the ramp, Mengele was often found there "off-duty" searching for twins.
Dr. Mengele had a special taste for twins. He would use them in medical experiments for various reasons; some being, the tracing of diseases through genetic origins. weigh variant factors of human heredity and environment, and to compare a healthy corpse to one that had been experimented on. Mengele had a fascination with heterochromia, which was a condition in which someone's irises differ in coloration. He would collect the eyes of his victims and leave them to soak in different chemicals. He was trying to uncover the secret to artificially change a person's eye pigmentation. One former Nazi SS officer stated seeing multiple jars with human eyeballs with colors ranging from blue, to green, to purple, yellow, red, and black. Mengele endorsed the doctrine of National Socialist racial theory. He engaged in a wide spectrum of experiments to prove the lack of resistance among Jews and other minorities at the time.
